Slamp – Unusual materials and Italian design

In 1994 Slamp was founded with the aim to call something really new into being. Roberto Ziliani gathered numerous creative minds around and put the established Italian design world upside down. With the in 1993 patented material Opalflex was developed a special material, a mixture of techno polymer and glass crystal, which was durable, bright and versatile.

The success of Slamp was based on unconventional materials from its own development since the beginning. These enable unique designs as they only Slamp has on offer and make them different from other designer lighting manufacturers. With the Slamp Tube lamp, which can be fitted with different decors, the Italians developed its first bestseller.

In 2000, Slamp patented the material Cristalflex. That’s a clear, transparent material, which is shiny and easy. This is followed by more innovative lighting series and further developments of the collection tube, such as the Bios Tube Table Lamp.

In 2007 Nigel Coates becomes together with Roberto Ziliani art director of the company. With this, new foundations are formed and built up young, motivated work groups. This time is considered the trigger for a new Slamp, the more strongly involved in materials research and thanks to young creatives developed a huge output of high quality designs.

At the Euroluce 2009 they represented the many new collections for the first time. The audience at the leading Italian exhibition was impressed by the form language and material.

The young talent Adriano Rachele developed with only 25 years the absolute bestseller of the company: the Veli pendant lamp. Rachele understands it like no other to use the inimitable characteristics of Opalflex for unusual designs. The Clizia ceiling lamp was also developed by the prodigy Roberto Ziliani. With this he just ordered chaos that finds its place in almost every apartment through different color variations.

From the pen of the Art Directors Nigel Coates is the Fiorella pendant lamp, which is reminiscent of a light cloud and offered by LightingDeluxe.de in different trend colors. With ever-new material developments as SteelFlex, Copper Flex or Flex Gold Slamp gives known series a new impetus.

With the commitment of Zaha Hadid the innovative Italian manufacturer can gain another talent for themselves. The Avia pendant lamp, which was designed by him, uses a combination of Opalflex and the specially developed Lentiflex. The result is even exceptional for Slamp. The Avia hanging lamp consists of 52 layers, which dismissed the light to the outside and thereby dampen pleasant. Thus, an atmospheric lighting effect can unfold.
